Moh Guan Terrace

Walk-Up Apartment, 970 sqft

It is evident that the owners at Moh Guan Terrace are plantsman, as seen from the abundant houseplants in the apartment. The balcony was restored and serves as the perfect escape from the hectic pace of modern life. The greeneries are accompanied by a green moss accent wall and kitchen cabinets, creating a consistent colour theme that’s pleasing to the eyes.

Given the slim layout of the apartment, the decision to tear down the walls in the communal area gives the illusion of a larger space and allows greater flexibility between areas. Bright and bold colours are used within the apartment, giving each space a unique character. The combination of retro styles with modern details turned the apartment into a spectacular, picture-perfect living space.

Interaction is at the Heart of this Home

The building is situated in Tiong Bahru, a quaint but cool little neighbourhood rich in history and heritage. Away from the hustle and bustle of the heartlands nearby, it has a slow-paced atmosphere. The building itself is a very old-fashioned walk-up building, and the apartment spans 90 square metres.

The apartment’s original layout was slim and narrow, so we decided to tear down the existing walls in the living, dining and kitchen areas to allow for uninterrupted movement through spaces and interaction between family members. The result is a very open communal space that can be further opened to include the balcony when the bifold doors are retracted. Bright and bold colours are used throughout the home to give each space a unique character.

The custom furniture piece is the green marble table that sits in the middle of the dining area. The slab of spider-green marble was carefully selected to complement the green tones in the living and kitchen area. It’s an understated shade of green, making the table a very subtle yet eye-catching centrepiece.

Urban Jungle

As featured on Square Rooms

A four-room walk-up apartment in Moh Guan Terrace, this 970 sq ft home sports a long balcony that extends from the living room to the master bedroom that the previous owners had enclosed to expand the indoor living space. The arched motif is found sporadically around the house, in the dining area shelf and in several doors. The door arches are an illusion, however, as the doors are actually rectangular with an arch shape painted in.

The living room encapsulates how the couple’s individual tastes were honoured in the final design. the grey tones that the husband favoured are found in the cement screed flooring and ceiling, and the complementary emerald accent wall that perks up the overall space caters to the wife’s affinity for colour.

An arched niche was carved out of the false wall that was erected to create an extended wardrobe space in the master bedroom. Sectioned with shelves, the space showcases the couple’s collection of keepsakes and books.
